What is Medical Massage?
Medical Massage can be prescribed by a physician (though not necessary), and involves an examination in which
the ROOT CAUSE of the pain/disorder is discovered and rectified in a minimal number of visits (usually between
4 and 10 visits, depending on the severity of the disorder).
Our practice focuses on medical massage for conditions like low back and neck pain, Sciatica, Carpal
Tunnel, and we offer the more traditional wellness massage, including Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Trigger Point.
If you have been injured in a car accident or on the job, or if you have another injury or condition for
which medical massage is necessary, your doctor may give you a prescription for massage. We work with medical
doctors, naturopaths, physical therapists, chiropractors, and other health care practitioners, providing massage
care when it is medically indicated for their patients.
What is the difference between medical massage and wellness massage? Medical Massage is an
outcome-based, physician-directed, and scientifically grounded healing modality. As with physical therapy
sessions, medical massage sessions are prescribed by a physician for specific issues and are limited to a
physician-designated course of treatment, and can be compensated through insurance*. Please note that we do offer therapeutic massage that is also outcome based, as described above (prescription not necessary).
